Ana Nuša Kalanj

Ana Nuša Kalanj is an actress, dramaturg and musician from Slovenia. She graduated in dramaturgy and stage art from the Academy of Theatre, Radio, Film and Television (AGRFT) in Ljubljana. She continued her studies at the American Academy of Dramatic Art in California where she graduated in acting. She worked with Ljubljana Puppet Theatre as a dramaturg on two productions of plays for children, namely Škrt škrt kra čof [Scritch Scratch Dip Clapote by Kitty Crowther] and Sovica oka [Big-Eyes the Little Owl by Svetlana Makarovič]. Kalanj herself created two plays (Love Story and Postcards and Memories), and shot three short films. In the USA, she worked with American music industry celebrities and recorded entire musical scores for two film projects. She played the leading role in the film Dreaming of Change for which she also wrote the soundtrack. In 2018, she started working in the music industry professionally, founded her own band (Ana Kalan Band) and began performing original music with them. In 2021, her original composition was used in the staging of The Neighbour's Son [Sosedov sin, an adaptation of a novel by Josip Jurčič] at Slovenian National Theatre in Maribor. In 2022, she performed in the celebration of Slovenian cultural holiday organised by the City of Maribor to which purpose she put poems written by France Prešeren to music.
