Ivo Svetina

Poet, playwright, essay writer and translator. He was one of the founder members of the fringe theatre companies Gledališče Pupilije Ferkeverk and of Gledališče Pekarna [The Bakery Theatre]. He published several poetry collections, wrote numerous stage plays, fairy-tales, essays on poetry and theatre or playwriting. His most prominent translations are the myths of the South American Indigenous people, Shakespeare’s tragedy Romeo and Juliet, The Tibetan Book of the Dead and Three Tibetan Mystery Plays (three traditional plays from Tibet). For many years, he served as the director of the Slovenian Theatre Museum.
