Tarzan An exotic play
grown-ups
At first sight, Tarzan and Jane are a couple who are going through what every couple goes through: small arguments and disagreements, some jealousy and maybe they are even a little fed up, mostly with the jungle and their inconvenient living circumstances. When the suave and cosmopolitan Mike steps in, the ground is ripe for a break-up. But, as is often the case, there are several interests at play. Mike charms Jane when he, through his own sacrifice, acquires civilisation goods for her, although this is only his way of getting his hands on the treasures hidden in the jungle. At first sight, the dialogue of the play seems light and clever and extremely entertaining; the comedy stems from a combination of typified characters and unexpected situations they are put in. But the humour grows increasingly more critical, the play, seemingly set in a distant jungle, opens a number of burning questions about our own materialistic world.
