One Day of Truth

Year of writing: 1999
A lie has no legs.
Total cast size: 13 (6 f, 7 m)
politics, theatre, current social picture of the world, lies and truths

The action is set in a small town. A journalist published a mocking article ridiculing the mayor and his methods of privatising public services. Even though the story was a fabrication, its publication caused quite a stir as the journalist was closer to the truth than he knew. The mayor recognises himself in the story and threatens to pull the paper’s funding so the editor is forced to punish the journalist by demoting him. The author of the play reflects not only the current political situation but also touches on the state of Slovenian media, playwriting and theatre review, whilst the common thread of the action are questions about truth and dishonesty.
